I haven't talked to a pete salesman yet but was told pete did not put Detroits in there trucks. Freightliner Dealer Told me if they put it together they would have to collect the tax. Works out best if you order it with a donner truck to work with. I would like to buy a Pete wrecked for componnits and do a pete the guys that put mine together have been doing a few petes with cat engines and western stars. I ended up buying a power glider from Frieghtliner was a lot less money I had a donner truck for the trans and rears. They have since bought 2 more gliders, but they had a somewhat local man who does their engine work to build a Cat for each of these, a C15 with a single turbo set-up. The family that does my trucking bought a new Pete glider from them 2 or 3 years ago with a 12.7 Detroit in it, they have already been into the engine twice, the first time the head had to be re-done, and the 2nd time a cam was put it. Too bad Canada won't allow me to bring one in! The trucks and engines I saw being put together looked top notch as in quality of workmanship. I thought they said you can get a cat or cummins installed but the majority they do is detroit engines. I got a tour of the Brydstown, Tennessee plant last month. We typically run Cat or Cummins engines and have always been buying 350-500,000 miles trucks and de-emmissioning them. I'd take the good, the bad and the ugly on 12.7 Detriot's or Fitzgeralds. Anyone have any knowledge of Fitzgerald Gliders from Crossville, TN? See they used 12.7 Detroits as their powerplants. Small fleet of 4 trucks, typically put 80-120k/year on each truck.
